January 30-February 3

We will be starting our math unit on multiplication this week. The students will be learning their multiplication facts and be tested over them each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As they pass each timed test, they will advance in the “Multiplication Milky Way” to the next number and earn a fun sized candy bar each time.  After they have passed their 12’s, they will earn a full sized candy bar! If you would like to participate by donating either a package of fun sized candy bars (Milky Way or other favorite) or a package of full sized candy bars to the classroom for this project, we would greatly appreciate it!

We will be changing the format of our spelling test beginning next week (January 25, 2012).  As many of you know, the same format was implemented in second grade near the end of the school year.  The test will be multiple choice and will be given as a pretest on Wednesday with Smart Response Clickers.  Students will have to distinguish between correct and incorrect spelling of their weekly spelling words. If students receive 100% on the pretest they will be exempt from the paper test on Friday.  However, all students will continue to take the dictation test on Friday.  This format will help prepare students with the proper test taking skills for the spelling section of the M.A.P. Test.  The more the students are exposed to this format the less anxiety they will experience during the state testing.
